John served as a Private with Company C, 1st Battalion, 1st Delaware Calvary during the Civil War.

He enlisted as a Teamster in Co. C by Captain Corbit. At time of enlistment he was 26 years of age, 5'-10 in height and was a Farmer.

He died of Typhoid Fever.
