May 1, 1953, weighing just 2 pounds 9 ounces, Loradell Wooten came into the world as a fighter. She was born in Columbus, Ohio to Jack Elmore and Rita Joann (Cavinee) Wooten and was the oldest of three. Five years her junior was her brother Audie Dean, then, two years later a little sister. Loradell wanted so much for her little sister to be named after her. So, her sister was named Rita Jodell after their mother and her.

In the early 1950's the doctors' prognosis was not a good one. They expected Loradell to pass shortly after her birth. But again, she was a fighter. Diagnosed early on with Cerebral Palsy, Loradell was the 1955 Easter Seals child.

She faced physical limitations all her life, however, with a new elementary school that had opened in her school district (Westerville, Ohio) which sported ramps, she easily adapted to the environment despite her crutches and canes she used. She went on to graduate from Westerville High School and also from Florida Southern College in 1991.

The love of her life was her partner of 30 years, Pam Oeffler. She and Pam met while working at Public Employees Retirement System for the State of Ohio. They lived in Ohio for some time before moving to Florida. They moved back to Ohio in 1994 when she went on disability for health reasons.

Back in the Columbus area, she was able to be with her nieces and nephews who she dearly loved. All six of them held a special place in her heart – Becca, Jacob, Phillip and Abby (Audie) and Breanna and Miranda (Rita). With struggles of their own – Jacob and Miranda held a particularly special place in heart.

Also after moving back to Ohio, Loradell found what could only be called her passion – after attending a rubber stamp party she fell in love with designing and creating greeting cards. It was a great joy to anyone and everyone who received her cards. Her love for stamping endeared her to her family and friends as she shared her love, her talent and her special gift of caring and sharing.

In 2003, Loradell was diagnosed with breast cancer. She dealt with this devastating disease the same way she battled with everything else in her life. She was determined to fight and win. After going through chemotherapy and radiation and being "cancer free" for one year, it came back with a vengeance – this time to her liver. Loradell died two weeks later on May 12, 2005. She lost her battle with cancer but gave so much during the fight. She had such strength from Pam, her family, and her friends hoping and believing everyday that she would win. She died as she was born – fighting for her life. All her life she lived it to the fullest -- still being that poster child that she was at two years old – teaching people to live, to be and do with what you were given.

Loradell was a caretaker, nurturer, teacher, friend, aunt, daughter, sister and partner who is greatly missed by those who loved her whose lives she touched.
