Well Known Local Woman Succumbs to Infirmities After Lingering Illness of 10 Years.
Mrs. Anna F. Haines for nearly sixty years a resident of Kalamazoo died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fred Phetteplace in west Dutton street. For more than ten years Mrs. Haines had been an invalid as the result of rheumatism, but had not been confined to her bed until within the past week when the Infirmities of old age and a general breakdown resulted in her death. Anna F. Stevens was born August 2, 1839, in Wilbraham, Mass., where she resided until 1857 when she came to this city with a party of her friends. In 1860 she was married to Porter L. Haines of this city and they at once went to housekeeping In west Lovell street, where they resided until the death of Mr. Haines in 1900. Since that time Mrs. Haines had resided with her children spending a large portion of her time with Mrs. Phetteplace. Two sons, Fred T. Haines of St. Louis, Mo., Edward P. Haines of South Haven, one daughter, Mrs. Fred Phetteplace, two grandchildren, F. Arthur Haines of New York, and Miss Gladys Phetteplace of this city and one brother, Josiah Stevens of Springfield, Mass., survive. Mrs. Haines was one of the well-known pioneer women of the city. Though never prominent in public affairs, her greatest activity being centered with her children and her home, she had a large circle of friends. By her kindly Interest in the affairs of others, her wonderful patience during her long period of invalidism, and her never-falling cheerfulness, she had endeared herself to many. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Phetteplace. Rev. Henry W. Gelston, D. D., pastor of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Home and will be private. Kalamazoo Telegraph -Press January 15, 1912 page 1
