Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Darling.
Mrs. Elizbeth Jane Darling passed away Wednesday afternoon about 2:30 at her home, 426 south Rose street. Her age was 78 years January 13. Mrs. Darling had been an invalid for about four years, having suffered with acute bronchitis, which is commonly known as bronchial consumption, and which was combined with heart trouble. Her sufferings were great yet she was very patient and up to the very last exhibited the sweet disposition and patience which had characterized her life. Mrs. Darling had been confined to the bed since a year ago in March. For about four weeks she had gradually grown weaker until the last. Mrs. Darling was born in Lancaster, O . Jan. 13, 1818. Her maiden name was Miss Elizabeth J. Swayze. She left Lancaster in June, 1840, with her first husband, Isaac J. Wiseman, coning at once to Kalamazoo, where the deceased had lived ever since. Mrs. M. K. Churchill was their only child. She still resides at the family residence Mrs. Darling's death was on the 50th anniversary of her first marriage. She was married on August 27, 1846 to Rufus H. Darling. In a house which formerly stood on the present site of the Kalamazoo club. To them were born four children, of whom two remain, Miss Emily S. Darling of this city and Rufus H. Darling of Kansas City. She leaves also two sisters. Mrs. Emily A. MacCarty and Mrs. Dr. S. B. Sill, both of Aurora, Illinois, and a brother, Theodore P. Swayze of Chicago. Mrs. W. J. Babcock of this city and C. W. Churchill of Grand Rapids are a granddaughter and grandson. Mrs. Darling had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church since she was 13 years old, having joined that denomination in Baltimore, O. She was the oldest member of the First M. E, church of this city and was faithful to its Interests. Mrs. Darling was a typical mother and Christian. Her son will arrive as soon as possible, Mrs. MacCarty arrived at 2:30 this afternoon.
