On Old and Highly Respected Citizen Dead
Edwin Carnahan, an old and highly respected citizen of Kalamazoo, died at his home, 282 west Dutton street, at 6 o'clock Wednesday evening, aged 77 years. For several years Mr. Carnahan bad been in ill health, suffering from a complication of diseases, and the and was not unexpected.
To mourn the death of a devoted husband and father, he leaves a widow and two daughters, Mrs. David McDonald and Mrs. E. B. Burrell; one sister, Mrs. Kate Larrabee of Williamston, Mich., and one brother, Frederick, of Lansing, Mich.
Mr. Carnahan was born in Geneseo, Livingston county N. Y., Feb. 14, 1823, and resided there many years. His marriage to Elisabeth Park of Geneseo took place August 10, 1850. He came to Kalamazoo in February, 1866, and in June of the same year the family followed. They have continued to reside here ever since. Mr. Carnahan was a carpenter by trade and was a skilled mechanic. He was employed at the Michigan insane asylum for 24 years but for the past four or five fears had not been able to continue his trade, owing to his bodily ailments. The funeral will be held at his late home on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. John Gray, D. D., will officiate. Interment will be at Mountain Home.
