CIVIL WAR VETERAN DIES AT HIS HOME
Monroe Barnea, aged 74 years, Civil war veteran, and pioneer resident of Kalamazoo, died Saturday night at 10:30 o'clock at his home 1415 Oak street. He had been a resident of Kalamazoo for nearly 70 years. Mr. Barnea was born in Lavonia, Livingston county, New York.
When the war of the rebellion broke out he enlisted at Jackson, in Lamphear's battery, Company G, Sixth Michigan light artillery, and served three years. He was a member of Orcutt Post No. 97, G. A, R. He was married to Ann M. Atwater February 22, 1866, who died in 1897, one daughter surviving, Mrs. R. E. Somers, 136 Catherine street. He later married Mrs. G. Tittle in 1911, who also survives. A step daughter Jeanette, and a son Theodore, three sisters, Mrs. Charles Davenport. Mrs. R. A. Fox. of Kalamazoo, and Mrs. M. L. Fosburg, Decatur, and one brother Theodore Barnea of Las Vegas, New Mexico, survive.
Short services will be held from the home at one o'clock Wednesday afternoon and the funeral from the G. A. R. hall at 2 o'clock with Rev. Armstrong officiating. Burial at Mountain Home. Kalamazoo Telegraph Press April 20, 1914 page 4
