British Royalty. Born Amelia Sophia Eleanor Hanover, in Schloss Herrenhausen, Hanover, Germany, the second daughter of George II Augustus and Wilhelmine Charlotte Karoline Prinzessin von Brandenburg-Ansbach. She was at one time betrothed to Frederick II of Prussia, but the match never occurred. When she became the Ranger of Richmond Park in 1751, she incited public disfavor when she closed the park to the public. She was sued indirectly in 1758 when her gatekeeper was taken to court. The court found that the public right of way through the park was precedent and her restrictions were ordered lifted. She was the last surviving child of George II and died unmarried at 75.
