Wm. Blackburn Dies at Dow Home

William Blackburn died at his home in Dow Monday night at 10:30 o'clock, after being in ill health for three months.

Funeral servics will be held Frida at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church in East Newbern, and burial will be in the East Newbern cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn were married at the parsonage of the Methodist Church in Elsah, with the Rev. Laird officating, and on Dec. 14, 1936, observed the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding, at the family home.

For many years Mr. Blackburn was associated with the C.P. & St. L. and the Illinois Terminal railroad as bridge building foreman. During the early days of his married life he had engaged in farming.

With the exception of four years in St. Louis, Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn spent their married life in Mississippi township, Jersey county. After their marriage they resided with Mrs. Blackburn's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newton Burley, on a farm at East Newbern. In July of 1887 they went to housekeeping.

Mr. Blackburn, a native of Ohio, is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. John J. Maloney, of Wood River, and Mrs. Julius J. Hilt of St. Louis; four sons, O.L. Blackburn of Alton, Charles J. Blackburn of St. Louis, Wililam Blackburn and Harold blackburn of East Alton; 10 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Edward Hall of Godfrey.

One son died at birth, and another, Roy Newton Blackburn, was buried in January of 1926. A daughter, Mrs. Dora Diebel, died in St. Louis in April of 1936.

Retired Carpenter Dies

Jerseyville - William Blackburn, 77, a retired carpenter, died at his home in Dow Tuesday evening, following a long illness.

He was the son of the late William and Rockanna Wyonette Blackburn, and was born near Carrollton. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Flora G. Blackburn; four sons, O.L. Blackburn of Alton, C.J. Blackburn of St. Louis, H.E. Blackburn of East Alton; two daughters, Mrs. J.J. Maloney of Wood River and Mrs. J.J. Hilt of St. Louis,; one sister, Mrs. Edward Hall, of Godfrey; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Bethel Church in Newbern Friday at 2 o'clock. The Rev. M.C. Foltz, pastor of the Jerseyville Methodist Church, will officiate and interment will be in the East Newbern cemetery.
