OBITUARY. Robert Andrew MCWHA.
Robert Andrew MCWHA, was born February 17th, 1861 at Ballymacruise, Belfast, Ireland. He came to the U.S. in the year of 1884 and lived with his sister, Mrs. James MCMEEKIN at Shelby, NE for two years. He then homesteaded near Goodland, Kansas. In the year of 1888, he found employment with the Union Pacific Railroad Co., at Cozad. Later he became section foreman at Vroman. In the year of 1902 he
began to farm again and lived on one of his farms until eternity called him, December 29th, 1937.
He was joined in holy matrimony at Willow Island, his bride being Miss Mary WALKER of Chicago, Illinois. This union was blessed with two sons, one of whom preceeded the father in 1910. Mr. MCWHA joined the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, from which church he received a very fine letter of introduction. After residing for a certain time in our neighborhood he united with the Methodist and remained a faithful member until his end. Beside his church activity he served our community as treasurer of his School District for 28 years and also as Assessor for 5 years. Mr. MCWHA was a charter member of the Gothenburg Masonic Lodge, which he and about 20 other men founded in 1900. This organization received its offical charter in 1901. He loved his fraternal brethren and took a great interest in them. He also took the work in the Gothenburg Lodge of Prefection here at Gothenburg. As a sign of respect and brotherly love his Masonic brethren were requested to commit the body of their
old friend and brother to its final resting place. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mary, his son Dupree and one grandson, John Robert, two sisters: Mrs. James MCMEEKIN of Lynwood, California, and Mrs. Agnes Finlay of Innishargie, Ireland. Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Kittenbrink, Friday afternoon at two o'clock, Dr. Paul Philipp,
pastor of the Gothenburg M.E. church officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. C.A. McVicker, with Miss Elaine Jacobson at the piano. Pallbearers were: C.A. McVicker, H. Clark Booker, W. Irl Stebbins, C.E. Collett, K.J. Catterson, and
Dr. E.O Anderson. Interment was in Gothenburg cemetery.
