Mr. John A. Kimble, 90, of Franklin, W.Va., died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Va.
He was born Aug. 4, 1914, at Smoke Hole, W.Va., and was the son of the late Adam Albert Kimble and Lucinda Ellen Self Kimble.
After graduating from Franklin High School in 1938, he began business at Brushy Run, establishing Midway Service Station. In 1940 he moved to Upper Tract and operated John Kimble's Store and the Upper Tract Post Office. In 1950 he opened Kimble Motor Sales, which was the local Chrysler, Dodge & Plymouth Dealership, along with Oliver Farm Equipment. He owned and operated the first roller skating rink in Franklin. In 1973, he opened Kimble Discount Tire at Ruddle, which is now Kar Kare in Franklin. In 1977, he helped his son establish Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin.
On July 14, 1940, he married Wilda Ruddle Kimble, who preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 1985.
Surviving are two daughters, Charlotte M. (and Jim) Cole of Harrisonburg, Va., Virginia A. (and Wally) Flatgaard of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Keith A. (and Barb) Kimble of Franklin, W.Va.; two half-sisters, Alice Ketterman of Maysville, W.Va. and Zola Swick of Petersburg, W.Va.; one grandson, Michael (and Leslie) Cole of Richmond, Va.; one granddaughter, Pam Cole of Bristow, Va.; and two great-grandsons, Ryan Cole and Sean Cole of Richmond, Va.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at the Chapel of the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, W.Va., with the Rev. Donald S. Wilkinson officiating. Burial will be at the Ruddle Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Kimble Funeral Home in Franklin, where the family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
