Betty Lou Carpenter, 83, of Springfield, formerly of Moore, Okla., died at 11:32 a.m. Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Scottville, the daughter of George W. and Audrey E. Buck Bostic. She married Arthur F. Carpenter on March 30, 1946; he preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 2001.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers; three sisters; and a son, Franklin Carpenter.
She is survived by three sons, James (Doreen) Carpenter of Rocky Mount, N.C., Larry and David Carpenter; a grandchild; a sister, Enola Moske of Gardena, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She worked as an assistant dietician for Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, retiring in 1972.
She was of the Christian faith and was a member of AARP. She was very involved in bowling leagues in Oklahoma and was active in arts and crafts.
Her entire family, including herself, husband and four sons, all served in the armed services. She served in the U.S. Army.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
