This old pioneer who came to Kalamazoo with her father, Maj. Abraham Edwards, in 1834. died at her residence on Portage street, Thursday morning, of heart disease, aged 63 years. Her father moved the land office here from White Pigeon, and was one of the most prominent men in Kalamazoo for many years. Her late husband, James A. Walter, was postmaster and a leading citizen of this place, being one of the most prominent republican politicians in this part of the state.
Mrs. Walter had seen Kalamazoo grow from a few small hones to the handsome and prosperous city it now is. She leaves a large family of children, four sons, William J., Edwin P., Frank C., and James A., and three daughters, Mrs. Mary Faxon, Mrs. Kate J. Rankin and Mrs. Alice Reed. Mrs. Emma E. Thompson died some five years ago. Mrs. W’s sisters are Mrs. Thomas AtLee, Mrs. M. N. Joy and Mrs. James Scott, the latter of Detroit. Oliver Edwards of Denver and Mr. A. T. Edwards of Wisconsin are her surviving brothers. The funeral will tack place from the home at half past two o'clock on Sunday next. Friends are invited. Kalamazoo Gazette, February 1, 1884
