Kenneth was born November 3, 1922, in Middletown, New York, to Charles and Lillian Mae Baxter Bennett. He was raised in New York State in the small town of Harriman. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 19. A Tech Sergeant, he flew 35 combat missions as a top turret gunner on B-17 bombers during WW II. After the war he married Bonnie Mae Caldwell July 14, 1945, in Amarillo. The couple started a family and moved to Harriman and to Abilene in 1973. Kenneth worked for the U.S. Army at West Point as a master carpenter and locksmith for 18 years. He was active in building and repairing homes and commercial properties.
