Josefa was born in Stulpikani, Bukovina, Austria to Samuel Gotsch and Marianna Magdalena Kupferschmid.

"Mrs. Josefa Binder, who came to the northwest in 1888, died Sunday at her home, E3226 Eleventh.
She first lived in Sprague, but in 1896 moved to Spokane, where she resided since.
Two sons, Adolph E. and Leo J. Binder, both of Spokane; a daughter, Mrs. O. A. Burnett, of Athol, Idaho, 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren survive.
Funeral services are in charge of Hennessey-Calloways."

Mrs. Josefa Binder, 87, who came to the Inland Empire in 1888 [1889] from Austria, died yesterday in her home, E3236 Eleventh. She was a member of the Maria Verein society.
Mrs. Binder resided in Sprague from 1888 [1889] to 1896 when she moved to Spokane, where she lived until her death.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. O. A. Burnett of Ahtol, Idaho; two sons, Adolph E. and Leo J. Binder of Spokane; 14 granchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
The body is at Hennessey-Calloway's."
