GEORGE M. GRIFFITH, 84, of Land O' Lakes, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Gulfside Regional Hospice in Dade City.

He was born in Mifflin, Ohio and resided in Mansfield, Ohio until 1988 when he moved to Land O' Lakes.

After graduating from Madison High School, he went to work for Westinghouse. He served in the U.S. Navy and returned to Westinghouse until he became employed by the state of Ohio. After serving for 17 years as a Game Protector for the Ohio Division of Wildlife he entered the world of politics and served three terms as Richland County Treasurer. He was a member of American Veterans, American Legion and a member of Venus Lodge. He was also a member of Myrtle Lake Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa; sons, John Folk of Ashland, Ohio, Keith Mitchell of Mansfield, Ohio, Bernie Wolf of Orlando, Florida; daughters, Connie Pitts of Brandon, Florida; Winnie Chastain of Land O' Lakes, Florida; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at Loyless Funeral Home on Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lucas, Ohio.
