Lyman served as a Private with the 4th Delaware Infantry, Company D during the Civil War.

He enlisted in the 4th Delaware on August 14, 1862 and was noted as being a Farmer.

Lyman was "Killed In Action" in the Battle of Cold Harbor at the age of 17 during the war.

He was originally interred on the Johnson's Farm in Virginia before later being re-interred here.
