In the 1930´s, he belonged to the Civilian Conservation Corps. He worked on many public works projects in the area, including the clean up after the hurricane that struck New England in 1938. He then served in the U.S. Army at the start of World War II. Later in the War, he worked at the Watertown Arsenal to help with the war effort.
Many years ago, he drove an electric delivery truck for the Boston Ice Company. He had also worked as an attendant at several service stations throughout the area. Most recently he was an Assistant Superintendent at the Ambassador Manor Condominiums on Arlington Road.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church. He served for many years as a Deacon, and also as a Sunday School Teacher.
In addition to his wife, Vivian; he is survived by one daughter, Virginia McKay, and a son-in-law, John McKay, both of Malden; and three sisters, Hilda Connor and her husband Henry, both of Abington; Jean Gibson of Quincy; and June DiGiacomandrea and her husband Daniel, both of Scituate. He is also survived by two brothers in law, Raymond Matson of West Yarmouth, and Lewis Delvental of Tewksbury; two sisters in law, Eleanor Teschek of Stoneham, and Joan E. Tenney of Woburn; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Edward F. Leith; and one sister, Anita J. Leith.
