Silas Chapel and Julia I. [York] Johnson were married in 1874, in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. They continued to live there until after the 1880 U.S. Census when it appears that their family with his wife's parents moved to Summerville, Union County, Oregon. They were both farming families.
Silas and Julia gave birth to at least three daughters, Rosa [1874], Erma [1876] and Elsie [1879] in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin before moving to Union County in Eastern Oregon where daughter Vesta Detta Johnston was born on 13 Oct 1885, in Summerville.
Their youngest child was Ray Clifford Johnson. He was born in, Summerville, Oregon on 28 Jan 1895 and on 22 Aug 1974 he passed away in La Grande, Union, Oregon. He was a farmer like his father and lived his whole life in Union County, Oregon.
