Ansel moved with his daughter, Mary, and her husband, William, from Kentucky to Gallatin Co., IL. In the year 1885, the family fell ill to influenza. Ansel was the only one well enough to go to town for the doctor and medicine. He left on foot, never to return. They found him the next morning in a snow bank frozen to death.
