Charles Henry Kluth was born the 20th of May 1860 at Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa and moved to Yankton, South Dakota in 1880 were his sister Margaret and her husband August Schrank were living. In 1881, Charles and his brother William drove by wagon from Yankton to Douglas County South Dakota where both of them homesteaded adjoining tracts of land. He and Marie Meinke were married on the 1st of April 1887. To this union was born four sons and a daughter. Marie Meinke died of the "Dakota Flu" on June 9, 1894.
Charles married his step sister Emma Hanna Meinke on January 2, 1896 at Mitchell, SD and they had seven sons and two daughters. Emma and Maria were sisters who both married Charles Henry Kluth. Maria was born on September 3, 1868 near Madison, WI and Emma Hannah was born on October 24, 1878 also near Madison, WI. Their parents Johann Meinke and Elizabeth Schaffer were born in Germany and immigrated to the US in 1868, settling in Dane County of Wisconsin near Madison. They family left Wisconsin in 1884 and settled on their homestead about fourteen miles south of Mt. Vernon, SD. The family consisted of sons Johann, Fred, Rudolph, Emil and Otto and daughters Maria, Bertha, Freida, and Emma and a baby sister who died at sea.

Charles died on the 2nd of Nov. 1924 at his home due to strangulation following vomiting. He had been sick all summer. he was 64 years of age and was buried at Blooming Valley Cemetery at Corsica, SD. Emma Hannah Meinke died on December 28, 1943 at her home in Mitchell, SD and is also buried in the family plot of the Blooming Valley Cemetery at Corsica, SD.
