Chief Richard L. Calhoun S.F.D.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Graveside services for Richard Leon Calhoun, 81, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Forest Park West Cemetery under the direction of Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Weldon Sistrunk with a special reading by Codee Harris.

Richard was born August 4, 1927 to Joseph and Cordelia Calhoun and passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008. Richard was a retired Chief for the Shreveport Fire Department. After retiring from the Fire Department, Richard worked as District Supervisor for the Louisiana State Fire Marshall's Office. Richard enjoyed singing and yodeling, performing at country music venues throughout the Ark-La-Tex, including the Ark-La-Tex Roundup, the Gladewater Saturday Night Opry, and the Hayloft Saturday Night Country Music Show in Glenwood, Texas. Most recently, Richard was a frequent performer at the country Music Hayride in Carthage, Texas where the audiences loved his "Sioux City Sue" rendition.

Richard is survived by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Dorothy Jean Attaway Calhoun; his daughters, Rita Cupp, Patricia Calhoun, Jeannie Currie and husband, Dan Currie and Kim Brown and husband Greg Brown; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, four brothers, one grandson, Christopher Myers and one granddaughter, Kathy Jo Cobb.

Pallbearers will be Josh Myers, Corey Rainer, Wesley Rainer, Jason Harris, Codee Harris and Kenneth Cobb.

Richards memory shall flow through the hearts and minds of his family, friends and fans.
