Eva Atkinson Slaughter, 56, of 3165 Allensville Rd., died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Duke University Medical Center. Born in Cumberland County, Mrs. Slaughter was the daughter of the late James Henry and Annie Catherine Benson Atkinson. Mrs. Slaughter worked at the Timberland Restaurant for over 30 years and she was an avid bingo player. She attended Rock Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Slaughter is survived by her husband Rufus O. Slaughter, Jr.; five children, Tracie Ham, of Toano, VA, Renee Williams, of Durham, Michelle Russo and husband Joe and Tommy Williams, all of Knightdale and Melissa Slaughter, of Roxboro; four brothers, Bill Atkinson and Donald Atkinson, both of Hope Mills, Doug Atkinson, of Fayetteville and Gary Atkinson, of Hope Mills; one sister, Betty Verchereau, of Mebane; three grandchildren, Jessie-Ann Hetherington, Issac Ham and Sydney Russo. Mrs. Slaughter was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Atkinson.

Funeral services will be held 2PM Saturday at the Brooks & White Chapel by the Rev. Martin Hall and the Rev. Donald Harris. Burial will follow in Rock Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Williams, Joe Russo, Joey Penny, Kevin Burke, Jamie Verchereau and Michael Atkinson. Honorary pallbearers will be Whitey Knight, Dolian Clayton, and Hine Simpson.
