Around 1920 she, and her sister Mary, met the Dolfini brothers, Philip and Andrew in Winterton, New York. Philip and Tillie were married in July 1921 and made their home in Winterton. The couple saw the birth a daughter, Dorothy, in October 1922.
In 1923 Tillie experienced a double tragedy. In March her 6 month old daughter, Dorothy, died followed six months later by the death of her husband, Philip. In the newspaper Dorothy's death was attributed to spinal meningitis and Philip to "a complication of diseases". The family however believed that these deaths were due to tuberculosis that had claimed many in the area.
Following the death of her family, Tillie went back to work in Brooklyn as a teacher. During the school year she lived in Brooklyn and summers in Winterton usually accompanied by her first cousin Lena Giannini. Tillie never remarried.
