Joe was born Sept. 21, 1988, in Beaverton, to parents Dennis and Christie (Powers) Young. He and his family moved to Madras in 2000 from the Beaverton/Tigard area.
He had graduated from Madras High School this June, where he was a member of the Future Business Leaders of America, and the student government.
Very active at Madras High, he played varsity football, was involved in the music and drama departments, and was a very talented singer who sang for many activities.
He had received two scholarships for Oregon State University, where he was planning to attend this fall.
Joe loved his community and humanity. He volunteered for the local blood drives, Relay for Life, and many other organizations. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, where he helped lead worship music, and was very involved with church youth group organizations such as Shebang and DYMCO.
He helped his parents out at the bowling center in Madras, which the family owned.
Joe felt very strongly about helping others in need, therefore he was signed up to be an organ donor and his family carried out his wishes.
Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Christie Young of Madras; sister, Jennifer Young of Madras; grandparents, Robert and Marion Powers of Three Rivers; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 29, in the Madras High School commons. Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Madras High School Drama Club, in care of Madras High School. Arrangements are under the direction of Bel-Air Colonial Funeral Home of Madras.
