Son of Mathias Sebastian Wideman and Elizabeth Mumma, husband of Catharine Vanhoben. Founded the Wideman Mennonite Church in Markham. Henry was killed by a falling tree as he cleared his land.

His tombstone says "The First Mennonite Preacher In Canada." This is partially true, as in 1803 he was the first Mennonite minister from Pennsylvania to move his family to Canada. However, Valentine Kratz was ordained in Jordan Station, Ontario in 1801 and therefore was the first Mennonite preacher in Canada.
