Mrs. Kathryn Elnora Pealer Stephens, whose memory it will be a pleasure for her legion of friends to cherish, passed away peacefully at her home in Clarksburg, Missouri on Thursday, January 19, 1939.

She was born to the late Christopher and Mary Jane Pealer in Ohio on September 16, 1869.

At the age of sixteen she united with the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Having moved to a farm near Tipton, MO, she transferred her membership to the Tipton Baptist Church, also becoming a member of the missionary society there. She later moved to Clarksburg and became a consistent member of the Baptist Church there.

She was united in marriage to James Milton Stephens of Boonville, MO on October 26, 1888. To this union four children were born, two having died in infancy.

She is survived by her husband, James Stephens; a daughter, Mrs. Arnim Hays of Tipton; a son, Rolla C. Stephens of Clarksburg; three grandchildren, George Milton Hays of Los Angeles, CA, Merlyn Denzil Hays of Tipton, and Lauranell Stephens of Clarksburg; three brothers, Milton Pealer of Portland, OR, John Pealer of Lawton, OK, and Rolla D. Pealer of Los Angeles, CA. Mrs. Stephens' two sisters recently preceded her in death.

Mrs. Stephens was a lovable characted, a consecrated Christian woman, an ideal wife, mother, and friend. The pure life she lived will be imitated in part, if not whole, by those who knew and loved her.

She enjoyed her church privileges and loved her pastor and his family, and attended church when her health would permit.

Her life will indeed, ever be a benediction to her children, grandchildren, and her many friends and neighbors.

The funeral services were held at 2 pm Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. V. Nelson, assisted by Rev. Wayne Garrison at the Clarksburg Baptist Church.

The music was under the direction of Mrs. Roy Conn, Mrs. Wayne Garrison, and Mrs. Herman Dahl. Wayne Garrison and Ray White sang, "Abide with Me" and "Lead Kindly Light." Mrs. Stanley Ferguson sang a solo, "A Perfect Day." Mrs. Conn served as piano accompanist.

Mrs. Fred Birdsong, Miss Kathleen Cantlon, Misses Virginia and Cleo Vanstratten assisted in handling the beautiful floral tributes.

Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery at Clarksburg. Pallbearers were Fred Birdsong, Oscar Rohrbach, Golder Howard, Gus Vanstratten, Fred Bailey, and Charles Albin.

(Obituary from the Tipton MO Times, 27 Jan 1939, page 1
Note: The Masonic Cemetery is now Hickman Cemetery. Also, there are discrepancies on the spelling of Kathryn, date of birth, and mother's name.)
