Kenneth Ray Cassel died at his home in Lansdale October, 15, 2008 following a courageous battle with cancer. Surviving is his loving wife, D. Barbara Cassel.

Born at his grandparent's home in Souderton, July 16, 1926, to Raymond and Pearl (Rosenberger), Ken was the oldest of six children. A lifetime resident in the grater North Penn area, he married Dorothy Jane Rossi in 1953 and fathered two daughters. He is survived by those two daughters, Deborah Raye Casey, her son Kristopher Kenneth Casey, and Diane Raye Cassel.

Ken worked as a carpenter and likes to say his hammer marks could be found in many theaters, shops, and homes in this area, Philadelphia and South Jersey. His "second home", Good Shepherd Church certainly benefitted from his many talents. Known as "the Phantom" for his quiet ability to see what needed doing of fixing on the grounds or buildings, Ken just got it done.

Following the death of both their spouses, Kenneth married D. Barbara (Johnson) Julius in 1997 and they traveled extensively in their motor home for some eight years visiting all 50 states and almost all the Canadian Provinces. Always returning to Pennsylvania after a few months, they knew they were home. Ken succeeded in fulfilling his lifetime wish to see all this wonderful country!

Kenneth was featured by Walt Hunter on KYW TV over Memorial Day weekend and a second time when he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal which he had earned on Iwo Jima with the Marines as they fought that famous battle in WWII, but had never received. With the call to attention, Ken proudly stood with his shoulders raised, a true Marine to the end. A quiet man, he stated he just did his duty and was somewhat embarrassed by all the fuss.

His standard greeting of "Heidy Ho" will be sadly missed by his immediate family, and the many friends who knew, respected and loved him.

Surviving are two brothers, Bruce and Bob Cassel and a sister, Gloria Justice; his step sons, Lee and John Julius; a step daughter, Debbie Poloway - their spouses, children and grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Job well done, Ken! May you rest in peace in your Father's Home.
