He is survived by his wife Elna, sons Garn (Sherry) of Los Angeles; Marlin (Margaret) of Torrance; Scott (Ingrid) of Pendleton, OR; and daughter Loretta (Charles) Wilson of Glasgow, MT; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all his life with a period of serving as a bishop and as a stake patriarch for 35 years. He was professor Emeritus at UCLA (1949-1989), and co-owner of Wallace Laboratories and Complete Green Companies in El Segundo. He was a fellow of the professional societies Soil Science of America, Ecological Society of Soil Science, Society of Plant Physiologists, American Society of Agronomy, and American Association for the Advancement of Science. He made 30 trips to Egypt helping that government solve some of their agricultural problems.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at the Westwood Wards LDS Chapel located at 10740 Ohio Avenue in the Westwood district of Los Angeles. A viewing will be held from 9-10:30 a.m.
