Gisella T. Holmquist Holt, 89, of Milton, passed away on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 1989 in Puyallup. Born as Gisella T. Lang on September 20, 1900 in Minneapolis, Minn., it is here that she became the wife of Joseph A. Holmquist in 1923. They drove west to Washington State in 1925 and lived in Tacoma for 29 years. After Mr. Holmquist's death in 1949, Gisella married Hugh (Roy) Holt of Milton in 1954 where she resided for 35 years. She was an active member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Fife, Milton Sr. Center, and the American Legion Ladies Aux. Preceded in death by her firstborn son, Oliver D. Holmquist in 1948 and Hugh (Roy) Holt in 1971. Mother loved and was loved by her large family.
She is survived by 83 direct descendants; four sons, Joseph, Jr., Buckley; Albert, Gig Harbor, Charles and Harvey, both of Tacoma; six daughters, Pearl Jacques, Olall, Lois Shine, Burien, Evelyn Winslow, Puyallup, Helen Glenn, Tacoma, Flora Brown, Seattle, Carol Holmquist, Calif.; 29 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; step-sons, Roy Holt, Corvallis, Oregon, Ed Holt, Vancouver, Washington; and her cherished friend, Robert Wadsworth, Milton.
Rosary will be recited on Monday, November 27, 9:45 a.m. at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Fife. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, November 27, 10 a.m., also at the church. Interment will be in the New Tacoma Cemetery. Family suggests donations to the Milton Senior Center or to St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Viewing is scheduled for Sunday at Powers Funeral Home, Puyallup.
