Macajah C. Adams was the son of Mary Ann Willis and Elijah Cooper Adams.

He married at Otway, NC, May 26, 1910, Sarah Elizabeth "Bettie" Gillikin, #30619689 (1881-1972), daughter of Caldonia Golden and Chewe Pigott Gillikin.

Macajah had a Common School Education. His earliest occupations were fisherman and boatman.

When first married they lived at Salter Path, NC, where he had a general store and was appointed Justice of the Peace in 1913.

He was an excellent carpenter and highly respected by his colleagues in Salter Path as a boat builder. He built some of the first boats with inboard engines around 1912. These had a cabin forward and sometimes a little mast. The smaller boats were used for fishing. The larger ones, around 30 feet, were used for running fish to Morehead City. He also made coffins and caskets.

In March 1917, he was superintendent of the Union Chapel Sunday School, where he participated actively in the affairs of the church and kept membership records and collections.

M.C. was the census-taker for the August 28, 1914, census of Gillikin (present day Salter Path), Carteret Co., NC.

In his later years, Macajah had a shop on the shore behind his house in Morehead City called "The Landing". There he concentrated on boat-building and made many of the flat-bottomed skiffs that were once plentiful along the Morehead waterfront. The last boat he built for his personal use was 36 feet long with a 9 ½ foot beam and was completed in 1947. He named it "Phyllis" after his granddaughter.

They had six children:

(a) Caldonia Adams, #30879712, b. 1911, d.i. 1911

(b) Agatha Frances Adams, #30619744, b. 1912, d. 1975; m. 1938 Earl Francis O'Boyle, #24514724, b. 1913, d. 1989
