Jay L. Smith, age 82, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2001 in Daniel.

Born May 16, 1918 in Center Creek, Utah the son of Leo Earl and Nancy Ella Shelton Smith. He attended school in Wasatch County. Married Virginia Marie Mortimore on July 22,

1952 in Provo, Utah. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on January 9, 1974.

Jay was a veteran on World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy, as a Radar Man Second Class. He was a life long resident on Heber Valley, and spent many years working in the mines in Park City. He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. He loved his farm and family. He especially loved to be with his grandchildren. They were his life.

He is now at peace with his beloved wife, Virginia, and those who went on before him. We will love and miss you Dad.

He is preceded in death by wife, Virginia; daughter, Rose Mary; son, Larry; both parents; brothers, Earl and Dean; and sisters, Delsa, Deon, and Nyle.

Survivors include four children, Dennis (Raelyn) Smith of Heber; Melanie (Monte) Townley of Heber; Terry L. Smith of Salt Lake City; Leo Jay (Michelle) Smith of Lake Charles, LA; two step-sons, David Meek of Salt Lake City; and Allen (Kathy) Meek of Salt Lake City. Also, 33 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nola Luke of Daniel; and Eva Lefler of Woodland.
