Luther Burl Smith, age 79, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Monday, February 5, 2007 at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. A son of the late Walter and Addie Walker Smith, he was born January 18, 1928 in Russellville. He was a former salesman for Scholfield Pontiac in Wichita, and was a retired life insurance agent. He was a United States Army veteran, and was a member of the Evangel Assembly of God Church in Wichita. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Virgil Smith; and three sisters: Rev. Opal Reddin, Mary McCutcheon and Violet Ruth Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Lawanda Smith; a daughter, Kristi Bakhtiar of Wichita; two sisters: Reba Woods of Bedford, Indiana; and Faith Price of Pomona, California; and five grandchildren: Keilah, Keisha, Keitiza, Keiley and Keison Bakhtair, all of Wichita.

A graveside service and burial will be conducted by Shinn Funeral Service at 2 P.M. on Friday, February 9, 2007 at Ball Hill Cemetery near Russellville. The Rev. Bob McCutcheon will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Rogers-Rye Post # 2283.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. on Friday at the funeral home.
