Buell Elwyn Andrus, 46 of Redding California , a former HOMER resident passed away early Sunday morning following a heart attack at his home.

He was born May 6, 1919 the Son of Albert and Grace (WEISS) Andrus.

He moved to Adrian, Michigan with his parents as a young boy and graduated from Adrian High School.

He served in the US. AIR FORCE during World War II, where he obtained the rank of Captain and he was a pilot. He has been attending an Officers Training School in Chico, California.

In 1943 he married Miss Dorothy Richardson and for the past 15 years they have lived in Oregon and California.

They recently owned and operated a Rest Home in Redding.

Survivors his widow are ; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Sharon) Fredricks , and Pamela Andrus ; one grandson, his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Albert Andrus, a Brother, Gerald Andrus and sister Mrs. Leo (Marilyn) Reynolds.

Military: 466th Bomb Group --CAPT Buell E. Andrus Pilot Crew #511 466th BG - 785th BS -- Enlisted in Detroit on August 2 1942
The 466th Bomb Group flew B-24 Liberators from Attlebridge, Norfolk, during the last year of the war in Europe. The Group flew 232 missions in the course of the year and celebrated the 100th one by inviting local people onto the base to mark the occasion. The Group flew missions against strategic objectives like U-boat installations in Kiel, ball bearing works in Berlin, aircraft factories in Munich and oil refineries in Hamburg. Remarkably, the 785th Bomb Squadron flew 55 consecutive missions without loss.

Miss Betty Evilsiser of Adrian returned home last evening after spending three weeks in Phoenix Ariz visiting Aviation Cadet Buell Andrus who was stationed At Thunderbird Field Number one. While there she attended Cadet Andrus' graduation exercises. He is now receiving his basic training at Marons Field near Tucson.

August 29 1942
Mr and Mrs A. C Andrus of South Winter Street have received word that their son Cadet Buell Andrus has entered the preflight aviation school in San Antonia Texas where he will receive officers training. He enlisted in Detroit and left August 2 for Kelly Field, Texas.

March 15 1943
Aviation Cadel Buell E Andrus son of Mr and Mrs Albert Andrus of South Winte Street was among a recent group to be graduated from Marana Basic Flying School Tucson Ariz. The class with which he graduated is composed not only of American Cadets, but also of a detachment of Chinese students sent to this country for flying instuction. The men will now be sent to single and twin engine flying schools for advancement and final training before receiving the coveted silber wings of a flight officer in the US Army Air Corps .
