B A Short, age 57, met a tragic death Saturday about 8 o'clock A M when he was struck by the Automobile owned by Dr J D Tucker, and was so badly injured that he died a few minutes later. George Mitchell, driver of the car, was arrested and placed in the county jail on a charge of manslaughter.

Mr Short, who was a well known dairyman, was crossing Seventh St about 50 ft west of 23rd Ave. The wind was blowing quite hard and as Mr Short was trying to keep his hat from blowing off and down the street, the wind caused him to step in the direction of the very large car that was moving at a speed more than normal, and stepped directly in front of the moving car, he was knocked and thrown to the pavement with considerable force, causing a contusion at the
base of the skull, a deep cut on his side and bruises about the legs and body as it was said the wheel of the car struck him.

George Mitchell, Dr J D Tucker's chauffeur, and several persons rushed to Mr Short's assistance and carried him to the McCorkle Drug Store where he was attended by Dr W A Carpenter and Dr B L Robinson. He died shortly thereafter The remains were taken to Webb's Undertaking Establishment in the ambulance that had been summoned.

Mr Short had been making a delivery of milk and was evidently on the way to his buggy which stood hitched at just above the 23rd Ave corner on 7th Street. The buggy and contents were taken to Police Headquarters.

Mr Short was a member of the Masonic Order and Woodman of the World. He is survived by a wife and four children. His residence was on 45th Ave between 14th & 15th streets. His brother is J H Short.

The funeral of Mr B A Short who met a tragic death Sat afternoon when he was struck by an automobile and so badly injured that he died a few minutes later took place this morning from the family residence 45th Ave & 13th St.
