Mary (Polly) Gray Morton was the 1st wife of David N. Morton. Her death date is questionable. Her headstone has a death date that appears to be 1863.

The following census records would tend to show that David's 1st wife was named Mary and she was born around 1819 and still alvie in 1870. David next married Lydia Roberts on 8 Oct 1871 in Carter Co. It would appear that Mary (Polly) Gray may have died between 1870 and 8 Oct 1871.

(NOTE: Another transcriber has read the date on Polly Morton's headstone as 1833 and her age as 41 yrs. An inscription also reads "Wife of David N. Morton". If the date is indeed 1833, then this cannot be the wife of David N. Morton born in 1822, it would have to be another David N. Morton. A visit to the cemetery will be made to verify if the date can be read with some degree of certainty.)
