A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
In June of 1954, he was appointed as a temporary call firefighter for the City of Woburn. He was a permanent call firefighter and a member of the reserves before being appointed as a permanent firefighter in September of 1961. He retired in 1986 after twenty-five years of service to the city.
He was a past member of the Board of Directors at the Woburn Municipal Credit Union, and was a member of the Woburn Cemetery Commission for over ten years. "Scotty", as he was known to family and friends, was a longtime volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club of Woburn. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing golf and hunting, and especially loved camping with his family at Ossipee Lake in New Hampshire. He also enjoyed gardening as a pastime.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Scott, and two sisters, Shirley Bruce and Lillian Scott. Surviving in addition to his wife Louise are three sons: Daniel W. Scott and his wife Anne Marie of Stoneham, Thomas J. Scott and his wife Karen of Chocorua, NH, and Paul R. Scott and his wife Kim of Lowell; Three daughters: Nancy L. Cincotta and her husband Michael of Billerica, Marcia A. Santarpio of Woburn, and Joanie M. Canario and her husband Bruce of Dracut; Ten grandchildren: Rebecca, Valery, Joy, and Michael Scott, Amanda and Craig Cincotta, Gary Santarpio, Abigail Scott, Adam Canario, and T.J. Canada. He was also the beloved uncle of Barbara Bowman, Priscilla Gilbert, and Steve Weymouth.
