Wesley Monroe, Jr. of Elmira, NY, an air traffic controller for the FAA having worked at various airports, died Thursday, September 25, 2008 at Gunthry Hospital, Corning, NY. He was 76.
The son of Wesley & Lucinda Sampson Monroe, Sr., he was born September 27, 1931 in Little Rock, AR.
He was a 10-year Air Force veteran serving in Korea and formerly stationed at Stewart Air Force Base.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Dolson Monroe at home; two sons, Brandon Monroe and his wife, Kristine of Dover, DE and Gerald Monroe of Corning, NY; one daughter, Rhonda Cooper and her husband, Curtis of Horseheads, NY; four brothers: Leon, Reynold, Phillip and Andrew; three sisters: Janice, Ruth and Juanita; eight grandchildren: Curtis Jr., Brad, Michael, Lyndsey, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Brandon and Elijah; two great granddaughters, Zanaya and Jizae; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Lee and James and a sister, Jean Ellen.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 28, from 7-9 p.m. at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29 at 11 a.m. at the Hope Chapel, Salisbury Mills, NY. Burial will be in Washingtonville Cemetery, Washingtonville, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
