Dr. George A. Baker, 95, one of the state's oldest veterinarians, died at his home in Brasher Falls at 5 o'clock Thursday morning, Apr. 21, I960. He had been in failing health several years and had been in serious condition the last few weeks. The body remained at the Hammill Funeral Home in Winthrop. Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brasher Falls Methodist Church. The Rev. Richard Northrop, pastor, officiated.
Dr. Baker was born in North Georgetown, Que., Dec. 28, 1864, one of five children of Dr. Alexander and Eliza March Baker. The family came to the United States when Dr. Baker was a child and settled in Brasher Falls. He attended the White School in Brasher Falls and early followed in his father's footsteps and became a veterinarian. He completed a correspondence course from the Veterinary Science Association in London, Ont., and received a diploma in 1916.

Dr. Baker had served the farmers in the Brasher Falls area for the past 70 years. He was twice married. His first wife, Lilla Church, died in 1917. On Aug. 25, 1925 he and Ada Strait of West Stockholm were married. She died Aug. 14, 1957. A sister, Miss Agnes Baker, died several years ago, and a brother, Dr. Frank Baker, died in 1941.
