Funeral service for Richard L. Spyres, 40, of 1006 Illinois street, principal of Jefferson school, will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in First Christian Church. Rev. Don Ridgeway, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens at Canton.
Friends may call at the Kuecks-Woolsey Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. today.

In respect to his memory, there will be no classes in Jefferson school Tuesday. All other schools in Pekin Dist. 108 will be dismissed at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Mr. Spyres was stricken at the Jefferson school Saturday afternoon and was pronounced dead on arrival at Pekin hospital at 2.44 p.m. Death apparently was due to a heart attack, according to Tazewell Coroner Robert Haller.

Born at Canton June 24, 1936, he was the son of Clifford S. and Louise Bordwine Spyres. His marriage to Lou Ann Harn occurred at Canton Aug. 21, 1960.

Mr. Spyres received a bachelor's degree in industrial arts from Western Illinois University and a master's degree in educational administration from Bradley University. He also had taken courses at Illinois State University and the University of Illinois.

He began his teaching career in the Pekin grade school system 17 years ago and had been princiapl of Jefferson school since 1970. Mr. Spyres was a member of First Christain Church and of Pekin Lodge 1271 B.P.O.E., and was a charter member of the Illinois Principals' Association. He served six years with the United States Army Reserves.

Surviving are his wife; his stepfather and his mother, Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Hensley of Canton; and two daughters, Julie Kay and Amy Beth, both at home. His father preceded him in death.
