Mae M. Adams of Mannford, Oklahoma, was born on April 23, 1917, to her parents, W.J. (Bill) Ross and Minnie (Johnson) Ross at their home on the banks of Blackberry Creek, near Asbury, Missouri. She passed away Friday, October 28, 2005.

Mae attended school at Liberal Rural School, near Asbury, Independence, Missouri and Ft. Scott Junior High School. She graduated from Kincaid Rural High School in 1935. She received her Master of Science degree and Bachelor's degree in education and school administration from Pittsburg State University.

After her mother's death in a car accident in 1931, her father married Naomi (Miller) Croan, who was a wonderful second mother until her death in 1984.

Mae married John Quincy Adams Jr., November 22, 1940, at Pittsburg, Kansas. They spend over fifty years on a farm near Kincaid.

Mae often said the greatest things that happened in her life was the arrival of their son, Randal Joe, born January 13, 1950 and their grandson, John Michael, born August 4, 1970. Mae was a member of the Kincaid-Selma United Methodist Church, a life time member of the Pittsburg State University Alumni, The Kansas State Teachers Association, and the National Teachers Association. She taught school for 39 years in Kincaid and Colony area and had many happy memories of those days and children that filled her life.

Those who survive her are John Q. Adams, Jr. (J.Q.) of the home, her husband of 65 years, one son, Randal and his wife Gerrie of Mannford, Oklahoma, three grandsons, John of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Chris and his wife Melissa Torkleson of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Craig and his wife Tammy Torkleson of Mannford, Oklahoma and four great grandsons, Justin Adams, Guthrie, OK and Kyle, Alex, and Scott Torkleson of Mannford, OK. This family has brought much joy and happiness to Mae, and each of them had a special place in her heart.

Mae was preceded in death by her mother, father and second mother, and four sisters, Dorothy Laurene McAdam, Thelma Trigg, Betty Duncan, and Marjorie Dunlap.
