"Grandma Boston" Dies At The Age Of 80
Years-Pioneer Of Upper Valley
Mrs. Mary Boston, Familiarily known to hundreds of Malheur County people as "Grandma Boston", died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Ricker in Vale, Hay(*May) 23 aged 80 years. Mrs. Boston came to this valley in 1884 with her husband William S. Boston and until Mr. Boston's death in 1901 they lived on their ranch at the head of the valley and were actively engaged in farming. Eleven children were born to them nine of whom survived several being residents of this section. The funeral was held from the Christian church. Monday afternoon a large number of relatives and friends of the beloved lady paying a last tribute to the loving character.
Mary Boston was born in Hart County kentucky in 1840. In 1855 she married William S. Boston and the couple lived in Misouri(*Missouri) until 1884 when they became residents of this county.
Six daughters and five sons survive them, besides 46 grand children and 46 great grand children. Friends the length and breadth of the valley mourn with the family the loss of a dear friend who always had a loving word and helping hand for them.
