Code Hill, 77, one of the best known. pioneer residents of Orange county, was killed near Lockhart, seven miles from Orlando, when he was struck by an automobile. Hill was killed immediately and persons who witnessed the collision said that the two men who were in the motor car failed even to slow down. They were arrested at Sanford.

David C. HILL was enlisted in the Liberty Independent Troop at Walthourville, Liberty County Georgia on 1 Aug 1862. He was a substitute for Thomas MANDEVILLE. Private Hill transferred with most of the troop to Company G, 5th Regiment, Georgia Cavalry, on 20 Jan 1863. He was on detail at camp for convalescent horses 31 Dec 1864. Private Hill was at Macon, Georgia when the war closed and was paroled at Albany, Georgia, 6 May 1865.
