Barney was the seventh of nine children born to Hazzard and Luella (Gray) Beene. He married Ruby Mae Williams and they were the parents of one daughter: Dorothy Mae.

BARNEY M. BEENE PASSES AWAY IN LOUISIANA MONDAY

Barney M. Beene, 51 years of age, passed away Monday morning at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria, La. Mr. Beene, who had resided in McKinney about 22 years, had been in ill health the past two years. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and also a member of the Baptist Church.
He was born in Hillsboro on October 25, 1895, the son of Mrs. Louella Beene, whose home is now in Dallas, and the late H. Beene, who died in 1923. Besides his mother, he is also survived by one daughter, Mrs. Ray Gouner of Port Arthur; four brothers, A. A. Beene of El Paso, R. T. Beene of Allen and J. M. and M. C. Beene, both of New Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Tom O'Coner of Kansas City, Mo. and Mrs. Van B. Hill of Dallas. His father, a sister, Mrs. F. D. Greenhill, and a brother, N. R. Beene preceeded him in death.
Chaplain Harris of Ashburn Veterans Hospital, will conduct the last rites at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Harris Funeral Chapel here and interment will follow in Pecan Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cordius Richards, Carl Marion, Thurman Beene, Perry Hendricks, John Hendricks Jr. and Van Hill Jr.

Pvt. B. M. Beene was born at Hillsboro October 25, 1896, and received his education from the schools of Hill County. Son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Beene of McKinney. Assigned to Co. B, 312th Unit, M. T. C., and trained at Camp Travis upon entering service, August 25, 1918. Sailed for France November 13, 1918, but saw no active combat because armistice had been signed.
