Effingham- Logan Woodward Van Dyke, 73, of Effingham died at 11:07 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effngham.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with burial in Oakridge Cemetery, Effingham, with military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Kemerer or the donor's choice.

Mr. Van Dyke was born Aug. 6, 1925, in rural Dieterich, the son of Dewitt T. and Amelia J (Wiecheart) Van Dyke Sr. He married Lorna K. Sporleder in 1947.

He was a former Effingham city fire chief who retired in 1977; member of the First Presbyterian Church, American Legion Post 120 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1769, all of Effingham; and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Mrs. Dale (Brenda) Brooks of St. Charles, Mo., Mrs. John (Gail) Bailey of Mandeville, La.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
