W.H. Stockard, 86, Dies Near Garza
Garza, Oct. 17.- W.H. Stockard, 86 years old and a pioneer resident of this community; died Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock at his home near here where he had lived since 1859. He became suddenly ill a week ago and grew rapidly weaker.
Stockard was born in Tennessee in 1838 and came to Texas in 1858, settling on the farm near where he died. He was married in Tennessee to Miss Sarah White in 1859, and his wife died suddenly of heart failure in May 1922. He is survived by six children as follows:
Dave and J.A. Stockard of Garxa, Mrs. Nora Shelton and Mrs. Geo. Farmer of Lewisville, Mrs. J.A. Cates of Little Elm and Mrs. W.A. Morgan of Wylie.
He was a member of the Methodist Church for more than 60 years.
Funeral services were to be held at the Old Hall cemetery Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Miss Bertha Stockard, who is teaching at Harrold, came in to attend the funeral of her grandfather.
Notes: William and Sarah Stockard had nine children; John William, Nora Jane, James Alfred, Thomas Benjamin, David, Mary Ellen, Lillie May, Louisa Payne and Minnie Lee.
