There are five unmarked graves next to him. His daughter, Harriet Kerby is next to him (she wanted to be by her daddy) then his wife on the other side of Harriet, Ruth Jones Kerby, their son Marshall Kerby and his wife, Nora, and a child of Marshall's. Possibly his sister Dora Kerby also is there. R.M. Kerby served through the entire war for the CSA. He was in Co A of the 8th TN Infantry from Smith Co. TN. His parents were Barbary Brown and Francis Marion Kerby that raised their family near Dixon Springs, TN. Barbary died about 1857 and was buried in Hiwassee Cemetery on Cedar Bluff Rd. After the "War Between the States" R.M. married Catherine (Ruth) Jones on 8 Dec 1867. They are found on the 1880 census records in Trousdale County, TN with children: Marshall, Cornelius, Andrew Ethelbert, Brunette (Nettie), Lillian, and Barbary. Richard Marshall moved his family to Florence Alabama in 1883 (source is a letter he wrote shortly after arriving to his sister Medora Kerby Fergusson which is in the Archives in Nashville, TN) Several of the members of the family worked with the Florence Wagon Works during the late 1880s. Richard Marshall's son Andrew Ethelbert Kerby and his wife, Minnie Viola Russell Kerby (my GGrandparents) are buried in the same Cemetery, Florence City Cemetery just up the hill from R.M. Kerby's marked grave (marked with CSA stone).

Update (2015): I have marked his wife's grave with a small stone. Her (Catherine "Ruth" Jones Kerby) grave is near his (their daughter Harriet is between them.)
