"Master Sergeant Riley served as an air-ground controller aboard an AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft with the 6148th Tactical Air Control Squadron for the 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On July 6, 1951, while flying an air-ground control mission, his aircraft ran into bad weather and crashed five miles northeast of Pyongtaek Airfield (K-6). His remains were recovered. Master Sergeant Riley was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal." “Sgt Ora R. Riley, 1st Veedersburg Soldier To Give Life in Korea – M/Sgt. Ora Ray Riley, 22-year-old son of the Rev. and Mrs. Perry Riley, of Veedersburg, was killed in action in Korea, July 6, the parents were notified last Friday by the Department of Defense.

Due to come home on furlough in August, Sgt. Riley was the first Veedersburg soldier to give his life in the Korean War. His father is a church of God minister.

Born September 28, 1928 in Parke County, Sgt. Riley was serving with the airborne division when he was killed. He had been overseas since June 1949. He enlisted December 26, 1947.

Surviving, besides the parents, are two brothers, Dale and Charles Riley, and three sisters, Elsie, Mary and Maxine, all at home.” – Covington Friends, Covington, Indiana, July 19, 1951
