Mr. Edney served his country in the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was stationed in New Guinea during WWII.
Sammie enjoyed riding motorcycles, racing, fishing, hunting, reading, boating, playing games and traveling. Mr. Edney served on the Farmington Police force during the 1950s and was one of the first motorcycle patrol officers during that time. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Mr. Edney was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Benny Edney, Walter Edney, Sylvia Owen and Mildred Chapman; and by his wife, Ruth (Helms) Edney.
Sammie is survived by Marie (Wells) Edney, his wife of 23 years; son, Paul Edney; daughter, Pauline Pyburn; stepchildren, Dennis Lukehart and Susan Hazen; sister, Goldie Jones; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and by many dear friends.
