William E. Salchert, 76, of Rosebush, died Saturday, April 15, 1995, at Central Michigan Community Hospital in Mt. Pleasant.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Henry's Church in Rosebush. Burial will be in Denver Township Cemetery.
Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and at the church Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice. General purpose envelopes at available at the funeral home.
A life resident of Isabella County, Mr. Salchert was born May 24, 1918, in Denver Township, the son of Michael and Margaret (Perry) Salchert. He married Evelyn Butler Feb. 3, 1941. She preceded him in death July 4, 1976.
Mr. Salchert was employed as a mechanic at Central Michigan University for 19 years, retiring in 1981. He also enjoyed farming, hunting, and playing cards. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge No. 195 and St. Henry's Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Dana) Nagy of Fife Lake; a son, William J. (Sandra) Salchert of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Jonn (Danielle) Nagy of Fife Lake, Jason Nagy of Fife Lake, Chad Salchert of Mt. Pleasant, and Suzanne (Bruce) Lilly of Mt. Pleasant; one great-grandchild, Kaley Rose Lilly of Mt. Pleasant, his companion, Irene Evans, and her children, Jim (Nancy) Evans of Holt, Kathy (Lee) Pochert of Marquette, Michael Evans and his fiancee, Leila Vogel of Mt. Pleasant, Robert (Pam) Evans of Mt. Pleasant, John Evans and his friend Jackie Cotter of Mt. Pleasant and William Evans of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Helen Slider of Colorado, and Leila Cloud and Margaret Punches, both of California; a sister-in-law, Rose Salchert, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Salchert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn, four sisters; a brother; a great-grandchild, Cody James Lilly, and his companion's daughter, Mary Ann Evans.
