Rita Martha Little, 78, died on September 14, 2015. Rita was born on March 11, 1937, in Topeka, KS, and raised on a farm in Scranton, KS, by her parents Joseph Anton Heise and Inez Mary Foster.
Rita married Leon Paul Little on November 3, 1956, and was a devoted wife and mother. Together they worked the family farm and raised seven children. They spent many weekends playing cards with neighbors, often with kids in tow. Summer evenings were filled with the kids catching fireflies and playing games in the front yard.
Rita loved gardening, sewing, and playing the organ. Rita and Leon also enjoyed family gatherings, square dancing and traveling.
Rita is survived by seven children: Richard Little of Carbondale, KS; Kathleen Thompson of Raleigh, NC; Janis Behymer of Charlotte, NC; Marilyn Kapp of Overland Park, KS; Marj Little of Fayetteville, AR; Joyce George of Pennington, NJ; and Gerald Jay Little of Leawood, KS; and 14 grandchildren.
Also surviving are sister Frances Swalwell and brothers Joseph and Robert Heise.
In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in her death by her husband Leon Little and her sister Joann Male.
A visitation will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 14251 Nall Avenue, Leawood, Kansas, on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 9:30 am, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 am. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Friday at Ridgeway Cemetery. The home of Richard Little (family farm) will be open for fellowship from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the Alzheimer s Association. Donations can be mailed to 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
